Technology – Transparency - Public Access is My Mantra
I’m Terry McGinn and my conviction is that the county, the city and their respective planning and environmental issues require the skills and experience of competent staff. In addition those agencies need qualified volunteers who will step up to help.
I have been deeply involved as a citizen for 7 years. I am very aware that we need to step up the game on that progress.
Our county and cities need those residents who will expend additional efforts and experience to share the burden.
we need strong fiscal discipline.
We need detailed comprehensive planning with action items and accountability.
We need public transparency and community outreach using the tools all progressive municipalities use every day.
The county, the city and special districts are charged with oversight and guidance through their councils and commissions.
The solutions are about many types of sciences and using the latest technology to achieve the growth, mission and goals.
The incumbent councils and boards can affect those changes with their members who can and should work together. The public residents can do more by staying informed and involved about the issues that affect them. Complaining is not a constructive attribute.
Let me be clear. I understand the missions, I am qualified, I am motivated, I am here to contribute without ulterior motives and I will not be the “Status Quo” you hear about.*
- The “elephant in the room”. Some might think that old equates to lack of energy or contribution. It does not if one is still very healthy, with a sharp mind and has all their faculties firing on all cylinders. Test the person before you judge.
WHY I POST WHAT’S IMPORTANT
In 2010, I retired from industry after 46 years of working in the corporate & technical world. For 10 more years I consulted in industry and mentored some very bright persons.
Over those 50+ years I became proficient in many sciences and technologies, as weel as leadership, finance and organizational planning and development.. when I was 25 and VP (Operations) for EG&G SEALOL, 3 colleagues and I were sent to Yale University for a series of psychological pre-employment testing programs. The top managers at EG&G chose us to evaluate the test series to be used as screening tools for new manager hires. I was told that my evaluations revealed that my main skills were problem identification and solutions but more importantly it was that I could see multiple problems derived from the initial solution and subsequent solutions for those newly created problems.
In my next 50 years that skill made me an effective creative manager of problems and solutions. This skill still burns brightly in my mind.
If you ask all my colleagues over the years they will confirm this skill of mine.
In 1984 after 20 years of technical management I created my own company and for the next 17 years my team created, designed, fabricated and implemented successively more advanced systems and software to automate industrial operations.
For 30 years, we taught our children live skills. My family was fortunate enough to sail the ocean, and we embedded ourselves (5 months/year) in the island life of the Bahamas, both sailing and living in Eleuthera.
Island life and sailing throughout the Bahamas exposed me to the environment and as a resident and ex patriot I was deeply immersed in environmental issues in a 3rd world country, as well as the bureaucracy that made their “world go round”. I slowly became an activist for the persons I came to love and the environment I lived in. That included recovering from Hurricane Andrew (direct hit) in 1992 and 4 subsequent smaller hurricanes, storms at sea and pollution affecting both the island land and the ocean.
After 20 years of living (part time) off shore and cruising offshore from Nantucket to the Florida Keys we moved to Indian River County and the City of Sebastian in 2007. While still in Bucks County, PA., I continued to have my hands full as the founding president of a community organization of 165 home planned development including all infrastructure. By 2018 we sold that home and I was done with all that and focused on my life in Sebastian. The next 8 years saw me involved in the Indian River Lagoon, the Mosquito Control District, a major recall and the City of Sebastian, a wonderful, well run community.
I feel that my experience and skills can continue to create contributions to the city, the county and the complex environment of the Indian River Lagoon. When a very competent city councilperson resigned early I knew it was time for me to move from the audience to the dais.
That is why I am running for councilperson. I still have all the right energy and experience to bring the missions forward.
